OPFLEX is manufactured using 30% less energy than conventional materials, is reusable up to 10 or more times and has an additive that speeds up its biodegradation in a landfill. OPFLEX is Low Carbon Impact (LCI) – a truly green product. With a density of 1.5 pounds per cubic foot, OPFLEX materials are 50-70% lighter in weight than conventional sorbents, making them easy to deploy. OPFLEX materials are able to absorb up to 30 times their weight in oil.

The inventor of OPFLEX technology, Scott Smith, has also collaborated with scientist Gray Curtis and conducted further research related to the development of synthetic Eelgrass based on the OPFLEX technology.
